Studio Diary late 2007/08
Hello all,
I seem to be running at once every six months to update this page. The price of being busy I guess!!
Well, August 2007 found me mixing Tina’s new album [Listen 2 the Music] and it was a total labour of love. The results were brilliant and everybody was very happy including me!! [check it out tinacharles.com]
The rest of the month was taken up with two projects for Artemis music, recreating well known singer Josh Groban’s more famous tracks and some jazz standards. I usually enjoy these projects ‘cos it involves playing some guitar and programming drums.
September saw me doing a couple of remixes for Tina plus mixing some of Phil Pickett’s ‘Culture Dub’ project which was starting to sound amazing. I also did some live recording work for Xenomania, at their place, for an artist called Alex Vargas [outstanding voice]. I started yet another project for Artemis recreating some of the ‘High School Musical’ tracks, hmmm.
The Artemis project spilled over into October and I started a new line of work, Teaching!!! I had been approached by a large music college in London [Tech Music School] to teach one day a week basic studio technique as an addition to their performing arts course. I said I’d give it a go for a term and see if it worked out. I have never been so terrified when they all trouped in; you have twelve pairs of eyes looking at you waiting for you to show them something they don’t know!!
I also mastered Tina’s album at the end of the month so that it was ready for manufacture.
November, and we all went to Xenomania’s firework party with Muggins and long-time friend Nick Coler setting the things off, what a laugh!!. I also went up to Cambridgeshire to write with long time writing partner Dominic Glynn for a Universal library project. Towards the end of the month mixed some more ‘Culture Dub’ tracks for Phil.
December arrived with an Album for world famous Christian singing group ‘Vinesong’, I have worked with them for many years and it is always a joy. That project was complete apart from mixing about a week or so before Christmas at which point yours truly kicked back and reached for the wine. Also went to Xenomania Christmas party - fantastic night.
Emerging from the alcoholic haze that was Christmas [very, very enjoyable] it was time to do the final mix on the Vinesong project, this was completed in a few days with everybody very pleased with the results. BA Robertson also made a welcome return to the studio around this time to continue work on his ‘Too Close To The Sun’ project.
Since then I have been extensively involved in library writing with various people as I thought I had let it slip a bit the previous year .Oh yeah, just done a wicked mix of the old classic ‘I Feel Love’ for ‘Culture Dub’ sounds like a hit to me!!
I have put up some mp3’s of the new stuff.
All the best Martin
